Summer Holidays - Part VII - La Push

The Washington Coast is quite different from the Oregon Coast - at least the northern part of the coast is. We had a bit of a long driving day when we headed up to this last stop before heading back to Canada, but Anna was a trooper.

We drove from Cannon Beach to La Push, which is located within the Olympic National Park. La Push is on an Indian Reservation, and they have built a 'resort' in their community made up of cabins and a couple of motel units. Because we booked late, we had to move from a cabin to the motel after the first night. But, we didn't mind because the motel gave us 180 degree views of the ocean and coastline.

The coastline is much more wild here, similar to the Pacific Rim in BC. While we were there, we had the only 'poor' weather of the trip, but the foggy gray weather just seems to suit that environment so well. It feeds into the wildness of the place. We had no rain while we were there, other than a light mist on the morning we left, so we were able to get out and explore.

One of Anna's favourite things is water, or wa-wa, as she calls it. The ocean here is not really conducive to swimming, but running in and out of the small shore waves it is perfect for!

We took a hike along Rialto Beach on one of our days there. The rock formations out in the water, the huge driftwood washed up on shore, the forest spilling out onto the wild beach - we drank it all up.

Anna and I built some Inukshuks, and some of them she even let stand for a while!
